Supporting Shop Local: Celebrate Small Business Saturday in the Trinity Valley

Why Shop Local Matters in East Texas:

Every dollar spent locally makes a difference. When residents across Kaufman, Henderson, Anderson, Van Zandt, and Rains Counties choose to shop local, they do more than just buy products, they invest directly in their communities. Small businesses are the backbone of the East Texas economy, driving innovation, creating jobs, and keeping tax dollars close to home.

“Shop Local” isn’t just a seasonal message, it is a sustainable strategy for keeping our local towns vibrant. Each purchase helps small businesses thrive and encourages future entrepreneurs to open and grow their own ventures with guidance from the Trinity Valley Small Business Development Center (SBDC).

What Is Small Business Saturday?

Small Business Saturday is a nationwide event that takes place the Saturday after Thanksgiving’s infamous “Black Friday.” This year, it falls on November 29, 2025. The day is dedicated to supporting local shops, restaurants, service providers, and makers who keep East Texas communities strong.

Small Business Saturday was started by American Express in 2010, and has become a powerful movement encouraging people to shop small and think local during the busy holiday season. For residents of the Trinity Valley region, this is an opportunity to celebrate the hard-working business owners who make our communities special.

How Shopping Local Strengthens Our Communities:

When you buy from a local business, the impact goes far beyond your purchase. Local spending helps build stronger economies and tighter communities in counties like Kaufman and Henderson. Benefits of shopping local include:

Whether you’re visiting a family-owned diner in Van Zandt County, or browsing a holiday market in Anderson County, every dollar spent locally supports your neighbors and builds a more resilient economy.
